JERICHO, Vt. -
A propane leak forced residents of a house on Plains Road in Jericho to evacuate Friday morning.
Fire officials say the 500-gallon tank was leaking liquid propane from the underside of the tank.
Four departments responded, trucking in water and spraying the area to dissipate the propane.
"Propane is heavier than air and sits close to the ground, so we have to physically disperse it with some water spray," explained Mathew Champlin, the assistant fire chief for Underhill-Jericho.
The propane company needed to pump the liquid out of the tank and vent the remaining gas. The scene was cleared around 4 p.m.
