MONTPELIER, Vt. -
Federal health care reform in Vermont won't cover dental work for adults.
Thursday, we reported that the state has presented a plan to health regulators. It outlines the coverage Vermonters will be getting once the state transitions to the health care exchange in 2014. The plan does not include dental coverage for adults. And the Vermont State Dental Society agrees with that decision.
"There are so many unknowns with health care reform around financing a new system, the implementation of that system and what the true impact will be on employers, small businesses, employees and individuals, that a stepwise approach to reform seems to makes sense," said Liz Cote of the Vermont Dental Society.
The dental society says there are challenges to figuring out how to pay for dental coverage, but it argues more folks will be able to see a dentist in Vermont with expansions to Medicaid.
