NORTH HERO, Vt. -
Sixteen boat crews raced for glory in vessels made MOSTLY from the metallic-looking tape.
Many sprung leaks, but everyone made it to the finish. Somehow, cousins and first-time Duct Tape Regatta competitors, Jack Biggins and Grace Kannaugh, managed to stay dry.
They pair explain, "We started building this yesterday at 2:00 in the afternoon and we stayed up at 10 and we used about 10 rolls of the jumbo-sized duct tape."
The 7th annual Regatta is a fundraiser for the North Hero Historical Society. Organizers say it raises only hundreds, not thousands, but more importantly serves as a spirit-lifter for the community.
The competition is mostly made up of locals and those here for the summer, but one of today's winners hails from Italy.
