ROCKINGHAM, Vt. -
Towns across Vermont are preparing to mark the one-year anniversary of Tropical Storm Irene -- and Rockingham is no exception.
The 141-year-old Bartonsville Covered Bridge was swept away in the floodwaters -- one of the most famous images of the storm's destruction.
Now the town will remember the loss of the old bridge -- and celebrate a new one -- to replace it.
Trestle work on a new bridge is starting soon, with major construction planned for the fall.
Insurance will cover $230,000, leaving the town with a $700,000 tab. It's unknown how much FEMA assistance they will get.
