CUMBERLAND HEAD. N.Y. -
Work is underway to build a new ferry slip in Cumberland Head.
Lake Champlain Transportation says it needs to add it to improve services and avoid service disruptions if one of the slips was ever out of service. The two other slips will need some repairs in the future as well. By adding the slip, it means LCT will avoid any service disruptions during those repairs. The project cost a little over three million dollars and is mostly being funded by 2.5 million dollars in federal stimulus money. It was placed into the New York State budget strictly for ferry services.
"There's a lot of private companies that get money, Global Foundaries and all of those, they do provide jobs and they provide transportation," said Sen. Betty Little (R-Queensbury).
Work on the new ferry slip is expected to take a year to complete.
