A guilty verdict against a Mennonite pastor who helped a former Vermont woman flee the country with her child to avoid losing custody.
Prosecutors say Kenneth Miller of Virginia arranged for Lisa Miller and her daughter, Isabella, to travel from Virginia to Nicaragua almost three years ago. Lisa Miller fled to avoid turning Isabella over to her former lesbian partner, Janet Jenkins of Fair Haven.
Kenneth Miller's attorneys say he didn't know Jenkins had legal parental rights when he helped the mother and daughter flee.
Now, Janet Jenkins is suing Kenneth Miller, Lisa Miller and a Virginia businessman who prosecutors say helped them orchestrate the escape. The lawsuit seeks unspecified monetary damages.
