NEWPORT, Vt. -
A Vermont judge has ordered a
competency exam for a Northeast Kingdom man accused of severely beating
another.
David Fletcher, 20, will undergo an
evaluation to see if he's competent to stand trial.
Fletcher has pleaded not guilty to
beating Mark Perron, 51, back in June over a grudge.
Authorities say Fletcher and two other
men-- Donald Cross and Peter Cirone-- beat Perron so badly, he is still
recovering from a traumatic brain injury. Perron had 14 bullets from a pellet
gun lodged in his skull and was unrecognizable.
Fletcher was reportedly declared incompetent to stand
trial in another assault case three years ago.
