Exhibit on weather at northern NY museum

ELIZABETHTOWN, N.Y. -

2011 was an historic year weatherwise in Essex County, N.Y. And now some of the more dramatic pictures are on display at the Adirondack History Center Museum in Elizabethtown.

Three dozen photos are showcased in the "Raging Rivers" exhibit. The destruction caused by a flooded Lake Champlain and then Tropical Storm Irene were captured by local photographers and media.

The museum staff sorted through thousands of photos.

"It was hard to pick, a lot of it was trying to get to different areas, show different things that were happening in different parts of the region," said Margaret Gibbs of the Adirondack History Center Museum. "The goal was to document this, knowing what had happened, knowing that is a really important moment that we will now remember it; hopefully we will remember it into the future."

The exhibit, which also includes a video shot during Tropical Storm Irene by Nathan Farb, is open until Columbus Day weekend.
