BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Police have identified the man that died Saturday while competing in the USA Triathlon in Burlington.
According to Burlington Police, 53 year old Richard Angelo of Beverly, Massachusetts had a medical issue in the swim portion of the race. Race organizers say safety personnel spotted the athlete at approximately the three-quarter point of the swim course in Lake Champlain just after 8 a.m. Saturday morning. He was immediately pulled from the water and rescue personnel began administering CPR. The athlete was transported to Fletcher Allen Healthcare in Burlington, but attempts to resuscitate him were unsuccessful.
