WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -
A Vermont woman has become the fastest woman to run the Long Trail.
Nikki Kimball, who grew up in Chittenden but now lives in Montana, completed the 273 mile trail, from North Troy Vermont to Williamstown, Massachusetts in 5 days, 7 hours and 42 minutes. The previous woman's record took over 7 days.
Kimball had been on track to beat the men's record by Friday, but stormy weather conditions hampered the effort as she ran through the night. She now holds the 5th fastest recorded time on the trail.
Kimball is a decorated ultra runner winning major races ranging from 30 to over 100 miles.
