RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) - Federal prosecutors in Vermont say a Rutland man has been sentenced to 21 months in prison for his role in a prescription drug selling ring.
The U.S. attorney for Vermont says 24-year-old Brett Carter was sentenced on Monday after being convicted of conspiring to distribute hydrocodone.
He pleaded guilty in June to conspiring to distribute the drug between about December 2010 and February 2011.
Prosecutors say Carter and others served as couriers picking the drugs up in Massachusetts and driving them back to Vermont, where they were distributed to others who sold them on the street in the Rutland area. Prosecutors say the leader of the drug ring, Jason Boyd of Chittenden, was sentenced to more than five years in prison in June.
