BENNINGTON, Vt. -
Bennington has been denied FEMA for reimbursement for Irene repairs, and now the town wants answers.
When the storm hit Bennington crews took immediate action, spending $4 million shoring up the banks of the Roaring Branch River, removing debris and repairing the town's levee.
Then in July they were told they were not eligible for reimbursement. The Rutland Herald says Bennington town officials were never told why they were denied funding and are working with Washington, D.C. consulting firms to file an appeal.
Rep. Peter Welch also pointed out an alternate route, saying if the fixes served a safety purpose, money could come from the Natural Resource Conservation Service.
