WATERBURY, Vt. -
A new art exhibit in Waterbury aims to give a voice to the many affected by tropical storm Irene
The exhibit -- called the After Irene Floodgates Art Project -- started as a blank slate. A six by six tile was handed out to all who were interested. The only direction -- to express a feeling or thought about Tropical Storm Irene. Eight months after they were handed out -- 300 completed works were collected and are on display at a gallery in downtown Waterbury. Though the artists range from school children, to professionals -- the organizer says their messages all carry the same meaning -- Irene left an imprint on us all -- no matter how young or old.
Artist Sarah-Lee Terrat said, "People around Vermont are very tired of rebuilding and of red tape. This could be a way to help people process how they feel. their frustrations, their thanks."
