Flowers mark the spot on this foot bridge along River Street in Keeseville where friends of Robert Rennie say the father of two was found dead Sunday morning.
"It was a real big shock to me. Robert was a good guy, he do anything for anybody," said Charles Sommerfeldt.
State Police are releasing very few details about what happened. Investigators were notified around 6:15 a.m. a man's body had been found in front of the barriers on the foot bridge that crosses the Ausable River. Police say based on evidence found at the scene he was the victim of a homicide. They would not say what evidence lead them to that conclusion. No motive has been revealed either.
"He definitely didn't deserve anything like this to happen to him," said neighbor Rebecca LaFountain.
An autopsy is scheduled for Monday to determine the cause of death. Police have not said if anyone has been arrested or if they have any suspects in the case. They would not comment - why they were also searching this home near the Lamp Lighter Mobile Home Park as part of the investigation.
"His girls kept him going, he struggled with the loss of their mom, it was his life support going on with them," said LaFountain.
Rennie worked numerous construction jobs to support his two young daughters. Their mother and his girlfriend died a few years ago from liver failure.
"Hopefully as a community we can come together and help support his family, his little girls who are left here without their parents," said LaFountain.
State Police say they plan to release more details about the homicide Monday afternoon.
