LAKE CHAMPLAIN -
Biologists are taking to Vermont rivers this fall to combat the lamprey population.
Lamprey are a parasitic fish that latch onto other fish for food. That's a problem for sport fisherman when the catch they haul in comes in wounded.
Biologists are treating the Missisquoi and Winooski Rivers in this fall with a lampricide, which is designed to kill the fish. They say the control program is working and wounds in fish are down.
