LEBANON, N.H. -

It's said that cats have nine lives.  For 3-year-old Missy, it's safe to assume she now has one less.

"I think the cat was targeted," said Maureen Daley, the cat's owner.

Scars marks the spot where Missy was operated on earlier this month after Daley found the ailing cat at the foot of her driveway in Windsor. "As I got closer she put her paw up to me and was whining and then I realized it was an arrow sticking in her," Daley said.

Police say someone intentionally shot the cat as she wandered near the Black Mountain Road.  The feline was rushed to the Small Animal Veterinary Emergency Services in Lebanon, New Hampshire for emergency surgery.

"Basically they opened the abdomen and cut the arrow off and started backing it out repairing things as they went. Starting with the spleen, the stomach -- sewed up the diaphragm and then pulled it through the chest," said Dan Kelly with S.A.V.E.S.

The animal hospital opened two years ago and vets there say they see animal cruelty far too often. "This is a pretty dramatic case but it is not uncommon for us to see gunshot wounds, things like that in dogs.  And I think probably 99-percent of them are malicious," Kelly said.

"Every time I think about it I get really angry," Maureen Daley said.

Police are currently searching for the culprit.  Daley fears that in the meantime, another pet will be harmed. "I just feel bad for anyone else who has animals out there," she said.

This cat clearly has a lot of life left to live.
