Northfield, home of Norwich University, is one of many towns devastated by Tropical Storm Irene. Exactly one year ago, students were returning to classes and the sports fields at Norwich , including the men's and women's rugby teams. Their field is called a pitch, and it's located off the end of water street in Northfield, alongside the Dog River.
After seeing their beloved pitch underwater and team clubhouse out of reach, the next decision was easy. If you can't practice, you can help. Helping their community united the rugby team, who returned to play using the football practice field.
The Cadet Women learned to weather the storm and went on to win a pair of national championships, the first rugby titles in school history.
