Jack McMullen says he'll focus on fighting crime

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

As the primary comes to a close, the general election heats up.

Republican candidate Jack McMullen held a press conference Wednesday afternoon to address what he says will be a top priority in his campaign-- cracking down on drug-related crime. McMullen says he wants to create a task force with the assistance of state's attorneys in each county.

Democrat Bill Sorrell was quick to attack his opponent Wednesday morning, saying he's ready to draw out the differences between them this fall.

"I'm admitted to the bar and can practice law in the state. He can't. He's wealthy, I'm not," Sorrell said.

"If the implication is that I'm out of touch with the average Vermonter, I take issue with that because I've lived that way for the first 25 years of my life," McMullen said.

The two candidates differ on everything from product labeling laws to the future of Vermont Yankee, which makes for a whole new set of issues to debate as we head toward November.
