Sen. Patrick Leahy
BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The Church Street Marketplace in
Burlington celebrated more than 30 years Wednesday.
Canadian artist Pierre Hardy painted a
vibrant mural to celebrate the occasion. The 124-by-16-foot art piece covers
the Marketplace Alleyway that leads to the parking garage. That alleyway was
renamed to memorialize Vermont's senior senator, Patrick Leahy, with the new
name of Leahy Way. The senator says he and his wife Marcelle appreciate the
gesture.
"This means so much
to both of us because this is home. This is where we'll always feel at home. So
you've touched us both, so thank you very, very much," said Sen. Patrick
Leahy, D-Vermont.
Twenty sponsors paid for the mural. There will be maps with more
information on the painting available for $4.
