SHAFTSBURY, Vt. (AP) - A police dog in Shaftsbury, Vt., is getting a bullet-resistant vest.

Vermont State Police Lt. Reginald Trayah said the vest for the dog, named Tarawa, comes equipped with a leash attachment.

It costs $1,100. Money was donated by local businesses and the Vermont Canine Association.

The Bennington Banner reports the dog will wear the vest while accompanying Trooper Wayne Godfrey in situations where the trooper could be shot or stabbed, such as a building search for a suspect.
