Black bear season kicks off

Vermont Game Wardens say the black bear population is more than 6,000 this year and that the hunting season is an important management tool. Wardens have already had to put down several 'nuisance bears' after hearing complaints of bears in backyards and damage to people's homes. Hunters took 396 bears last hunting season and are expect to take a similar number this year. The season lasts through November 14th.
