LAKE PLACID, N.Y. (AP) - A figure skating coach who competed at the Olympics for the Soviet Union is being held in Maryland as a fugitive from charges in New York.
Authorities in New York aren't releasing details of the case against 50-year-old Genrich Sretenski. Police in Lake Placid, a hub of figure skating training and competition, say only that they took a complaint involving Sretenski on Sept. 16, 2011 and turned their investigation over to state police in November.
New York troopers say Sretenski is jailed in Howard County until an extradition hearing Wednesday morning.
A telephone message left at the Maryland rink where Sretenski teaches wasn't initially returned Tuesday afternoon.
Sretenski competed across Europe in the 1980s. He and ice dancing partner Natalia Annenko placed fourth at the 1988 Olympic Games in Calgary.
