Sen. Vince Illuzzi
Republican State Senator Vince Illuzzi officially kicked off his campaign for Vermont auditor.
The 16-term lawmaker used his hometown and the Barre Granite Museum as a backdrop to announce his plans to beat Democrat-Progressive Doug Hoffer.
Incumbent Auditor Tom Salmon is not seeking re-election.
Illuzzi is not a CPA, but the Orleans/Essex County lawmaker says he knows how to make government better for Vermonters.
"Given my legislative experience, my experience as a prosecutor, I believe I have a combination of knowledge and experience to do the very best job as state auditor," Illuzzi said.
Illuzzi last month highlighted the recent state police overtime pay scandal as a key area to be examined.
Democratic challenger Doug Hoffer has promised greater transparency, improved follow-through from previous audits and making better use of the offices resources.
