WEST LEBANON, N.H. -
In presidential-like
fashion Wednesday afternoon, the Romney motorcade entered the parking lot to La
Valley's Building Supply in West Lebanon. The GOP nominee
used the home goods store as the backdrop to conduct several TV interviews from
selected media, including Fox News.
The event was not open to
the public, however a handful of loyal supporters who gathered outside the
store were allowed in for a chance to shake hands with Romney.
Republican Randy Brock,
who's running for governor in Vermont, was among them. Brock said he and Romney
talked about the issues they are both talking about in their campaigns.
"Many of those themes
certainly resonate because they reflect some of the major themes we have in Vermont;
jobs, unemployment, about the economy and about taxes," Brock said.
Security at the event was
tight. Dogs checked cars and everyone had to be cleared before getting close to
the building.
Romney is staying in
nearby West Windsor, Vt., prepping for upcoming debates. But it's no surprise
the Romney campaign crossed the border into the Granite State, a key
battleground in the race for the White House.
"In New Hampshire if
you want to you can shake the hands of the next president of this country.
Particularly when we have the first-in-the-nation primary. That is the
beautiful part about being in New Hampshire," said Ray Burton, R-N.H.
Governor's Council.
But not everyone who
showed up on this day got a chance to experience that one-on-one interaction. Romney
left La Valley's through a backdoor, leaving some wanting a little more.
Reporter Adam Sullivan:
Were you hoping to catch a glimpse?
Jan Fitts/Ohio: I was
hoping. I'm disappointed I haven't after waiting two hours and getting a
sunburn.
"I am a firm supporter
of him and I think he is going to help the country a lot," said Larry
Potwin of Quechee. "Didn't get to see him, but that is OK. I don't have a
problem with that."
Romney is leaving the area
Thursday. We do not know if he plans on any other stops in the meantime. On
Friday, he's heading to Nashua, N.H., for an event that is open to the public.
After leaving La Valley's,
the motorcade made a quick stop at Lui Lui's Restaurant to pick up some pizza
before heading back to West Windsor.
