Plattsburgh MLD warns of scam

PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -

The city of Plattsburgh is warning Municipal Lighting District customers about an on-going phone scam.

The hackers have accessed the MLD customer phone numbers and are calling them saying they can lower their bill by seven percent just by answering a few questions. MLD officials say the department never asks for personal data over the phone, and if you get one of these calls hang up and call the number on your bill to see if it was a legitimate phone call.

If you did give any information over the phone call your bank or credit card company.
