PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
This year marks the 200th anniversary of the War of 1812 and celebrations are taking place through out our region.
The Battle of Plattsburgh was an important turning point in the war. American land and naval units defeated the invading British force on Lake Champlain's western shore.
This weekend, the battle was re-lived. Events included a parade, battle re-enactments, boat races, and tours of the 150-foot-tall monument the U.S. government built in the city of Plattsburgh in the 1920s to mark the American victory over the British.
