Storms pound region

Posted: Updated:
SHELDON, Vt. -

Severe storms that rolled through our region Saturday packed a punch.

In Franklin County, trees knocked down power lines on Route 105 in Sheldon. The road was closed while crews worked to repair the damage. High winds also toppled trees in Swanton and Highgate. Power was knocked out in the village of Swanton and downed trees damaged more than one home in the area. Fire crews were working to remove trees and debris from the road. Emergency responders say this storm, while quick, was one for the history books.

"They say we got hit the hardest out of the county, it was one of the worst storms I've seen in a long time. We do have a lot of trees down and it's going to be a long night," said Assistant Fire Chief Travis Greeno.

High winds knocked out power to 28,000 Green Mountain Power customers.
