BURLINGTON, Vt. (AP) - Police say a former assistant coach at Burlington High School has been charged with shoplifting $950 worth of merchandise at the Church Street Marketplace in Burlington a day before she planned to move to Boston.

The Chittenden County state's attorney said Tuesday that 26-year-old Alanna Waters of South Burlington pleaded not guilty to three counts of retail theft and one misdemeanor charge of possessing stolen property.

Police say Waters took clothes from Urban Outfitters and Whim. Authorities say a companion with Waters at the time also has denied shoplifting charges.

Authorities say they later searched Waters' vehicle and found more stolen property.

The Burlington Free Press reports that Waters worked as a seasonal coach for lacrosse at Burlington High School in the springs of 2011 and 2012.
