VERNON, Vt. -
Entergy, the parent company of Vermont Yankee, is suing the state over its tax bill.
Yankee was originally scheduled to close earlier this year and the tax agreements it operated under expired, too. So the state passed a new law to tax the nuclear power plant. Entergy says the new law increasing Yankee's taxes from $5 million a year to almost $13 million violates the company's constitutional rights. While Entergy is fighting the tax hike, it says it will keep paying $5 million annually to the state.
