LAKE CHAMPLAIN -
A new method to control sea lamprey in our region has been deemed a success.
Earlier this week, the Saranac River delta was treated. It's estimated hundreds of thousands of larvae were killed off. A new spreader was used and biologists say it allowed them to cover more territory making it a more effective treatment.
The Winooski River is next on the list. More treatments are scheduled in New York in October.
Sea lamprey are parasites that pose a problem in Lake Champlain because they feed on large fish.
