LOWELL, Vt. -
The new wind farm in Lowell is now producing power.
The Kingdom Community Wind project remains under construction along the Lowell Mountain ridgeline.
Green Mountain Power officials say the first of 21 turbines went online Saturday. Nine towers and turbines are now fully assembled and are undergoing electrical work and testing.
GMP is still working on other issues to get the full project open.
"As the turbines go up we have lights for airplane safety. We've applied to the FAA for lights that go on only when planes go by. We don't have approval yet, but they are running in other countries," said Dotty Schnure of GMP.
A second turbine is expected to start sending electricity to the power grid later today.
