Man charged in Castleton machete attack

CASTLETON, Vt. -

A Florida man was arrested on charges he attacked an elderly couple with a machete.

According to the Rutland Herald, Emiliano Zapatta, 60, owns property on Pond Hill Road in Castleton and lives there part time in a trailer. Police say over the weekend Zapatta attacked his neighbors, Douglas and Sheila Cook, with whom he's had a long-running property dispute.

At his arraignment, Zapatta came to court in a wheelchair. His lawyer noted that Zapatta is disabled, raising questions about whether he could have carried out the alleged attacks.
