BENNINGTON, Vt. -

A sheriff's deputy in Bennington County has resigned following allegations that he fatally shot a neighbor's dog in Pownal.

He is accused of shooting a pit bull that had slipped out of its leash.

Loveland claims the dog attacked his girlfriend's dog and killed three chickens.

The pit bull was found dead in the woods.
