BURLINGTON, Vt. -
Burlington's community garden has grown to be the largest in the state 40 years after green-thumbs planted their very first seeds. That of course calls for cake and a celebration. Party organizers say the garden gives residents a chance to learn where their food comes from and get their hands dirty while they're at it. They add that a community that grows together eats together.
Jess Hyman of Burlington's Cummunity Garden, said, "Doing that together with other people and sharing recipes, sharing experiences and growing your community is the most important thing of all."
Saturday's festivities included tours, speakers, and activities for the little ones. The city's parks department runs the community garden which covers more than three acres.
