CONCORD, N.H. (AP) - A self-proclaimed corruption fighter is arguing to undo the sale of The Balsams Grand Hotel and have a receiver appointed to reopen it immediately.
Andy Martin says he is advocating for the roughly 300 workers who lost their jobs when the hotel closed a year ago. But lawyers for the past and present owners of the hotel told a Merrimack Superior Court judge Monday the lawsuit should be dismissed because Martin has no authority to bring it and his only connection to the hotel was having dinner there last year.
Owner Dan Hebert declined to comment after the hour-long hearing. A spokesman for the owners say the lawsuit is hampering efforts to obtain financing to renovate the hotel.
Judge Richard McNamara did not say when he will issue a ruling.
