BENNINGTON, Vt. -

The assistant fire chief in Bennington admitted he drove drunk and left the scene of the accident.

Police say back in July, Chad Prentiss, 36, crashed his pickup, lost a tire and then drove away. Police were able to find Prentiss at his home after following gouge marks left in the road from driving on three wheels for nearly a mile.

Prentiss' blood alcohol content was more than twice the legal limit.

He faces up to 6 years in prison at sentencing next month. Prentiss was suspended from the department following his arrest.
