Vermonters back online after storm outages

Posted: Updated:
BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Most Vermonters had the power back on Wednesday morning after storms swept through the region and put them in the dark Tuesday night.

Heavy wind and rain sent a large tree onto powerlines in Killington, limiting traffic on Route 100 to just one lane.

The storm caused similar problems across Chittenden County.

Green Mountain Power officials say 21,000 of their customers lost power at some point Tuesday night, but by morning less than 100 remained in the dark.

"We have been hit with nine pretty significant storms since we merged in the end of June. Normally in that period of time we would expect two. Because we have all of those resources available, and working as one team we can focus on areas where they are needed and get people back on line than when we were working independently," says Dorothy Schnure with Green Mountain Power.

Schnure says even with the merger, former CVPS customers call still call the same number to report their outages or use the GMP main line.
