BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The emergency room at Fletcher Allen Health Care was packed with mock patients Wednesday morning.
Crews from across the hospital as well as the Burlington Fire Department were on the grounds for an emergency drill designed to test the Fletcher Allen's ability to respond to a major crisis. The scenario featured 27 folks needing care after an explosion.
"We never know what we're going to be hit with it, depends on how many people are involved. We try to make it a bigger scale so we can really test all resources to make sure we are really prepared in the eventuality of that something like this could happen," said Kathy Gutierrez, a care coordinator at Fletcher Allen.
A number of volunteers stepped in to play the role of patients.
Fletcher Allen is required by the state and federal government to perform the drills on a regular basis.
