SIOUX CITY, IA --The United State Hockey League is the top junior hockey league in the U.S.
With teams spread around the midwest, the league features players age 20 and under and is strickly amateur, so they retain their college eligibility. Players stay with local families.
This week, the USHL is hosting it's Fall Classic in Sioux City, Iowa. It's a 4-day tournament featuring the 16 teams in the United States Hockey League, including the USA Development teams.
What does a hockey tournament in the Midwest have to do with Vermont? Nearly half of this seasons UVM men's hockey team played in the USHL, including two of this year's captains. HT Lenz and Connor Brickley both played for Des Moines.
This week's tournament is the most highly attended in the United States by NCAA and NHL scouts. UVM's newest staff members, assistant Coaches Kyle Wallack and Kevin Patrick, were both head coaches in the USHL last season and bring all of that recruiting experience to the Catamounts staff. Our Ashley Chase is at the Fall Classic and will have reports the rest of the week from Sioux City
