MIDDLEBURY, Vt. -
A Middlebury company that opened with much fanfare and state financial support has gone out of business.
Gov. Peter Shumlin, D-Vermont, was among the dignitaries on hand last year to welcome eCorp English to Middlebury. The company relocated from France with the promise of creating 125 jobs in Middlebury.
ECorp specialized in teaching people around the world how to do their jobs in English. But despite hundreds of thousands of dollars in low interest loans, the company struggled financially from the start.
Founder Deborah Schwarz tells the Addison Independent that the end came when eCorp failed to find financial backing for the launch of new language software that it developed.
