BENNINGTON, Vt. -
The Vermont Veterans' Home in Bennington is losing federal support.
Federal officials cite a slew of abuse and neglect violations over the past six months as the reason they're pulling the plug on millions of dollars in Medicaid and Medicare dollars. Just last week, an employee hit and fractured the nose of an 82-year-old.
The facility is the home to almost 140 veterans and spouses and employs 250 people.
Vermont Digger reports, the state may now be forced to find alternate housing for the residents, or come up with the money to keep it open.
