BURLINGTON, Vt. -
The colors of gay-pride flashed across Burlington's Battery Park Saturday.
About one thousand people are expected to turn out for the week-long celebration-- which wraps up Sunday.
Saturday's pride festival events included speakers as well as a food and travel expo.
Gay pride week has been celebrated in Burlington for two decades and organizers say they are pleased with this year's showing.
"Vermont is such a wonderful place to live, it has such openness and welcoming attitude and it's so great to have people here not just in the LGBT community but also our allies," said Willie Docto, the event's organizer.
Organizers say the festival is meant to raise awareness and support equality for Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender individuals.
