Burlington police nab alleged thief

BURLINGTON, Vt. -

Burlington police say they've caught a busy thief.

Police arrested Travis Laplant, 39, after he allegedly tried to make off with a woman's purse while she went to pay for gas at the Champlain Farms on Shelburne Road.

The woman chased him and police say Laplant hit her and a bystander who tried to help. The bystander was taken to the hospital with an eye injury.

Police say Laplant then ran but was found on Pine Street a short time after. He is facing assault and robbery charges.

And police say Laplant is also behind a break-in at Henry's Diner on Bank Street Saturday night. He is facing burglary charges.
