CANAAN, Vt. -
The Town of Canaan is turning 424 acres of land into a community forest.
Town officials say they plan to use the property for things like education, recreation and conservation.
The land was owned by the Tillotson family for generations before being acquired by the town with a conservation easement ensuring that the majority of the land will be left undeveloped.
Fifty-six acres of the land has no easement and can be used by the town for economic development.
