WATERBURY, Vt. -
A new survey shows just how much Vermonters love their wildlife. The state ranks second only to Alaska in recreational enjoyment of fish and wildlife resources.
According to the survey by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, 62 percent of Vermonters went fishing, hunting or wildlife watching in 2011, and when broken down by category, Vermont is number one in wildlife watching.
State officials say the survey underscores the important of wildlife-related recreation. The state says hunters alone spent $269 million in Vermont last year, and most of that came between the fall tourism and winter skiing seasons.
