The Big Tupper Ski resort will not be opening this season.
Volunteers have kept the old ski area going. But the group now says it cannot afford to do it again this year. It says a lawsuit by opponents of the Adirondack Club development at the site is the reason. Activists and organizations like the Sierra Club say the Adirondack Park Agency should have rejected permits for the 6,200-acre resort and residential project.
The Big Tupper volunteers say the time and money required to fight the lawsuit leave no choice but to keep the ski area closed.
