Clinton County legislators are meeting Wednesday night to vote on whether to make possessing synthetic drugs like bath salts a crime.
Officials say a state law banning the sale of synthetic drugs does not go far enough. The Plattsburgh Press-Republican reports lawmakers want to make it a misdemeanor to possess the drugs.
Officials say these drugs are a big problem in the area and that this law will give them some teeth in cracking down.
The public can weigh in Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. at the County Government Center.
If it passes, the law could take effect within one week.
