PLATTSBURGH, N.Y. -
With the bicentennial of the War of 1812 now upon us there is a building local focus, and a new book looks to educate people about what were arguably the most important conflicts.
You may not know that Baltimore, Washington, and New Orleans were, by orders of Britain's Secretary of War, only diversions for the major invasion of our country on Lake Champlain and at Plattsburgh. The largest number of U.S. combatants at Plattsburgh in September 1814 were Vermont militia.
Keith Herkalo's book "The Battles at Plattsburgh: September 11, 1814" looks to set history straight.
There will be a book signing at Phoenix Books in Burlington on Sept. 28 at 7 p.m.
