LEBANON, N.H. -
Classes were canceled Wednesday at Lebanon High School, after police say a student set a fire in a bathroom Tuesday.
The school's sprinkler system was immediately activated in the second-floor bathroom and that put the fire out quickly. But there is significant water damage on two floors. School was in session at the time of the fire and officials say the evacuation procedure worked exactly according to plan.
"The students got out very quickly. We were able to account for 100 percent of students and faculty. And we were very pleased with everybody being calm and following the system that we had put in place," said Nan Parsons, the principal at Lebanon High School. "In fact that morning, we just practiced a lockdown drill and the day before a bus evacuation, so our kids know what to do in an emergency and they follow through really well."
Police say they do know who the student is and charges are pending. They did not release the name because of the student's age.
The high school will reopen Thursday.
