Little improvement on Vt. student science tests

Posted: Updated:
MONTPELIER, Vt. -

Vermont students showed little improvement in statewide science assessment tests this year.

Results from tests conducted last May, show 53 percent of Vermont fourth-graders scored as proficient or higher in science, 30 percent of eighth-graders met the requirement and 33 percent of 11th-graders made the grade. Those numbers were all the same or only slightly higher than the year before.

State education officials say one common problem for students is the writing portion of the science exams, where they struggle to explain their scientific results and conclusions.
